About WS LandCAD 2017 training course

During March 12 – 14, 2019, a group of four employees of The Scientific Research Institute of Perspective Urban Development Ltd. was trained at Widemann Systems GmbH CAD- und GIS- Systemhaus, Hamburg, Germany.
WS LANDCAD is a leading German product in the market of CAD applications developed specifically for solving problems of urban development, planning, landscape architecture, greening, and landscaping.

The following persons were trained in the group: Mikhail Bednyagin, Deputy Managing Director for Transport Infrastructure, Tatyana Goncharova, leading architect, Yekaterina Belova, highways design engineer, and Yevgeny Zhuravsky, engineer of the utilities planning office

WS LANDCAD application consists of 9 modules; each of them is designed to solve specific tasks in the field of urban development, planning, landscape architecture, greening, and landscaping. The training included a complete review of all 9 modules of the Russian version of WS LandCAD 2017 and all the features of the German program, namely:
•             LandCAD:
LandCAD module expands the main functionality of the CAD system in the field of execution and drawing of design documentation. The use of this module simplifies work with layers, rasters, and various design elements (lines, symbols, hatching) of a basic graphic platform;
•             Plan ZV (General Layout):
The module for creation of general layouts, planning designs, and territorial planning schemes. It includes several ready-made libraries of symbols and the ability create own symbols quickly with attributes attached to elements. The module also provides automatic legend formation (explication), calculation of areas, balance. and degree of use of territories;
•             Design:
Module for creating libraries of three-dimensional build-up objects. It has the ability to import and export drawings and images for further processing using Adobe Photoshop and SketchUp.
•             Geodesy:
The module for geodesic data processing, construction, and execution of surveying, as well as for transfer of drawings from WS LANDCAD to geographic information systems (GIS);
•             3Drain (Vertical Layout):
The module includes tools for designing and adjusting of the vertical layout and removal of water from the territory.
•             Digital terrain model (DTM):
Module for creating, designing, and processing of digital terrain models;
•             Landscaping plan:
The module for the design of territory landscaping, with an extensive library of 2D and 3D elements, as well as two catalogs of plants (more than 10 thousand items); it contains a wide selection of planting schemes with automatic output of legend (explication); it possible to create own schemes and legends, and the module allows to check the plan of vegetation planting;
•             Traffic:
The module consists of functions designed to simplify the graphical construction of the road network elements, car parks, and transport stops taking into account the fields of visibility; ring intersections, box curves, etc .;
•             Laser scan results processing (Opals):
Module for fast processing and reduction of large amounts of laser scanning data according to specified criteria.
The course program was developed on the basis of questions from the Russian side.
The training was conducted by qualified personnel of the relevant departments of Widemann Systems GmbH CAD- und GIS.

Within the framework of international cooperation, gaining of foreign experience in the field of urban development, planning, landscape architecture, gardening, and landscaping is very important for the employees of the Scientific Research Institute of Perspective Urban Development Ltd. since the main principle of the work of the Scientific Research Institute of Perspective Urban Development team is the systematic scientific approach to work taking into account the specifics of the territory and the high professionalism of the personnel.
