On May 15-16, the School of Design of the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted the All-Russian Conference "Architectural Education in Russia at the Current Stage."
It brought together representatives of leading architectural universities, professional community, and practicing architects and urban planners.

Conference participants discussed key challenges in architectural education, training for the urban planning industry, and new approaches to professional training for architects.
One of the central events of the conference was a presentation by Pavel Spirin, NII PG Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, entitled "Problems and Solutions in the Training of Architects and Urban Planners." The expert outlined the significant personnel shortage in the field of urban planning.

Pavel Spirin also spoke about the creation of a specialized Urban Planning Department at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
"The modern urban planning industry requires practice-oriented training for specialists capable of working at the intersection of design, architecture, and digital technologies. That's why the Urban Planning Department based on NII PG was established at the Polytechnic University. The integration of educational, practical, and research activities will enable the Polytechnic University to take a leading position in training specialists in territorial planning and urban design,"– he stated.
Following the conference, participants noted the need to update educational programs, strengthen students' practical training, and foster closer interaction between universities, the professional community, and government agencies.
