The new 85.6-hectare zoo will become a major public, educational, and recreational space, complementing the existing Leningrad Zoo.
On June 4, a significant event for St. Petersburg's development took place on the sidelines of the SPIEF: in the presence of St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov, Vice Governor Nikolai Linchenko and Sotex CEO Ilya Korshunov signed a letter of intent for the construction of a new zoo in the Primorsky District of St. Petersburg.
The project is planned to be implemented on a site of 85.6 hectares on Kamyshovaya Street. A public-private partnership is considered the basic mechanism for its implementation.
NII PG developed a comprehensive vision for zoo space, taking into account both modern requirements for animal welfare and the needs of city residents for a comfortable recreational area.
"When developing the concept, special attention was paid to the harmonious integration of the facility into the urban environment and maintaining the ecological balance. The project takes into account the prospects for developing the associated infrastructure of the Primorsky District, which will make the zoo accessible to a wide audience," – noted Pavel Spirin, Project Manager, NII PG Director.
The new zoo is intended to become not only a recreational destination for St. Petersburg residents and tourists, but also an important center for environmental education and scientific research.
